My Great Grandfather Kenny
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. / At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.” For the Fallen, Laurence Binyon.
My father’s description of this photo, of my great grandfather – “Grandad Kenny was a Sergeant in the Royal Garrison Artillery 1911 – 1917. He was badly burned when the cordite in his gun pit caught fire. Battle of Ypres June 1917. Needless to say, being a Kenny, he is the one in the middle with the pan on his head!.” On this day, 100 years since the Armistice agreement was signed bringing an end to the First World War, we remember those who served and sacrificed for us.
