The second Curiosities Bus Tour visited the Prince of Wales Armouries, The City Centre Airport on the day it ceased operations, the Groat Homestead, the controversial Talus Dome sculpture, and Teddy’s, one of the city’s oldest restaurants.
"The Mission was a hub of activity throughout the 1880s, used variously for “singing lessons every Friday evening,” as a Social for the Ladies’ Aid Society, and for garden parties featuring the Fire Brigade Band."
Women with ties to Edmonton were among the first in Canada to break into the male-dominated profession of architecture. Marjorie Hill, the first Canadian woman to register as an architect, grew up here; Jean Wallbridge & Mary Imrie, Canada’s first all-woman architectural partnership, ran their home office here; Freda O’Connor, the first female president of a Canadian architectural council, settled here; Alice [Mailhot] Ross, the first Canadian woman to graduate in architecture, launched Ross Home Plans here. Alice predated all the others, yet her accomplishments—and her challenges—remain largely unknown.
